“A Friend in the Storm” is a blog for people who struggle with various forms of oppression, namely depression and anxiety. It is also a place for anyone who is not faced with these conditions, but seek encouragement through the trials of life, the trials that we are all promised to face at some point. It is not a place for medical or mental health advice. Rather, it is my account of how I navigate my own struggles on a daily basis using my faith in Jesus Christ, and a belief that I am worth the time and effort it takes to heal. And here, in that sharing, I hope to be able to encourage others.
I’ve often heard that we, and by “we” I mean anyone, cannot live in the past. I believe this is true. But many people who struggle with depression and anxiety know that while the past may play a role, the task of picking up each foot and trying to move forward is the real challenge.
My purpose for this blog is two-fold: first, it serves as a tool for healing for myself. The process of writing about my struggles is cathartic, and allowing the public to read those struggles requires a great deal of trust, and produces accountability. Second, I feel as I go through my journey that I have a responsibility to help others who struggle with similar issues. I have developed compassion and empathy for others, and my hope is that this blog will be a way to share that.
Please feel free to contact me with any thoughts or questions. You may either comment on the post, or, if you prefer to send a private message, just click on the Contact tab at the top of the page.
I wish love and healing for all those who cross my path!
